2nd February 2009, Dublin, Ireland: Savvy tourists and business travellers looking to take advantage of huge savings on high quality health, cosmetic and dental treatments in Singapore can now compare clinics and prices on RevaHealth.com, the search engine dedicated to helping people find clinics in countries all over the world. Heart bypass surgery, costing on average SP$195,000 (US$130,000) in the U.S.A. and SP$66,000 (US$44,000) in the U.A.E., is available for as little as SP$28,000 (US$18,500) in Singapore.

Singapore Medicine says that 410,000 overseas patients travel to the country annually (*). Patients from the Middle East come seeking heart and vascular surgical procedures, encouraged by the high level of healthcare provided and
the use of top-of-the-range medical equipment. Other patients, typically from the U.S.A. and Australia, come for cosmetic surgery and dental treatments ranging from cheek implants and breast augmentation to dental crowns and implants, attracted by the huge savings that can be made. For example, a facelift procedure costing on average SP$12,000 (US$8,000) in the U.S.A. and SP$15,000 (AU$15,000) in Australia is available for just SP$2,600 (US$1,700) in Singapore.

However, people searching on the Internet for information about clinics are running into problems, with traditional search engines returning too many irrelevant results. A search on RevaHealth.com helpfully returns only relevant clinics and lets potential patients compare their various options.

CEO and founder of RevaHealth.com, Caelen King commented, “People find it difficult to source clinics in Singapore that offer the particular treatment they are looking for, be it a coronary angioplasty, an eyelift or tooth implants. RevaHealth.com lets visitors easily find and compare over 160 clinics in Singapore, helping them save time and money in finding the best clinic and treatment for their needs.”

New Auto-Complete

A new and improved version of our auto-complete went out today. This was quite a significant change which Marta had been working on for some time. Although it seems like a pretty small part of the application we identified it as a key aspect in the usability of the product and we think that the changes will help guide users quickly to the clinics that they are looking for.

Key to the improvement  is dramatically increasing the number of names that the auto-complete will accept and cleaning them up to be consistent. We also now ignore the first word that is entered if it isn't in our dictionary. For example if you type 'cheap bridge' we know to ignore 'cheap' as it is not in our dictionary and our auto-complete will prompt you to select 'bridge'.  As you type the letters that match are automatically highlighted so that the you can easily see the treatments that match your query.

The query box now also accepts a variety of different inputs

  1. Treatment desired – i.e. 'face lift'
  2. Problem that needs addressing – i.e. 'missing teeth'
  3. Synonyms for the above
  4. Misspellings for the above
  5. Name of Clinic
  6. Name of staff member

No doubt there will be further changes once we have enough data to analyse how the changes affect users interaction with the site.

New Filters

We pushed out some changes to the design of the search filters today. We felt that the old filters were too cramped, untidy and generally a mess. To make matters worse they are right at the top of the page so everyone see them and you have to use them to really take advantage of the application.
So we have cleaned them up by

  • We replaced the red links with either check boxes of radio buttons. This got rid of the sea of rid which was a bit of an assault on the eye
  • We reduced the number of vertical lines shown by default from 7 to 5. This gave us the room to space things out a bit better.
  • If there are more options that fit in the 5 lines then the full list of option pops out in its own div rather than pushing the whole page down. This allows the user to retain their visual context.
  • Previously we only had clinic type or treatments in the filters. We now always have both of them

We hope you like the changes and here are the two side by side so that you can see the difference.

Bug fixes and a few minor features go live

We just updated the website with a bunch of bug fixes and minor features.

    1. A lot of changes to allow people using chrome to get the same experience so user of IE and Firefox get. This also affects the Safari browser
    2. Added highlighting between the search results and the map on the right hand side
    3. Some display problems for health clinic fixed
    4. Some small styling changes to maintain consistency

    Major Updates To RevaHealth.com

Well by now you've probably seen our lovely new homepage and search results. (If you haven't, what are you waiting for? Go here now!) We do have to apologise for the site breaking a couple of times today while we were making the changes. Sorry if we inconvenienced you at all. We know there's a couple of small things still not working quite the way we'd like, and we're working really hard to get them fixed.

Overall, we're really happy with how the site looks and works now, but we'd love to hear from you too about any part of the site. Just send an email to info@revahealth.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Probably the biggest change you'll see is in the actual clinic search results. We've made it much easier to actually compare the important facts about each of them on the search results page itself. You can of course still go into each of their brochures and read the full details too.

We've also added new ways for you to filter your search results. You can now choose to see only the clinics that have reviews, or only the clinics that have female doctors, or only the clinics that have prices displayed.

We think you're going to be able to use RevaHealth.com more effectively now that we've made these changes, so we hope you enjoy the results!

We were asked a few weeks ago to provide some content for a dental and medical tourism supplement for the Evening Herald in Ireland. It is published today, and in it you will find a number of good features written by ourselves and others. Unfortunately it is not available online at the moment, but we hope to be able to offer the supplement as a download in the not too distant future.

We've added a new feature to the site which lets you search for the problem you are experiencing rather the end treatment you need. This will lead you to a page with clinics who can treat the problem using one of a number of different methods.

The method the dentist ends up using to solve your problem will always be chosen after a consultation, but if you're not sure where to start, we can at least help you take the first step.

So, if you're suffering from bad breath, black tongue, broken teeth, canker sores, cavity, cleft lip, cleft palate, cold sore, crooked teeth, delayed eruption, dental abscess, dental repairs, dry mouth, extra teeth, face cyst, face tumor, facial fracture, grinding teeth, gummy smile, head and neck cancer, head cancer, loose teeth, malocclusion, missing teeth, mouth cyst, mouth tumor, neck cancer, oral cancer, oral thrush, periodontal, plaque, pulpitis, sensitive teeth, sleep apnea, sleep disorder, snoring, stomatitis, teeth gap, TMJ, tongue pain, tooth erosion, Tooth fusion, toothache, wisdom tooth infection, or yellow teeth, then go to the homepage at RevaHealth.com and search for a clinic that can help you.

    New Page Header

We have changed our page header to emphasis the search functionality and give more vertical real estate to search results. In total we can now display a full additional listing on a typical screen and while this may not seem like much it make a big difference when comparing clinics as less information is off the bottom of the screen.

A lot of other system changes have been made under the hood which should allow us to start introducing some exciting new search functionality. This will be rolled out over time with the first functionality going live next week. More later on this.
